Gary Oldman Named Best Actor By Empire

News Image
British actor Gary Oldman has been named best actor, despite missing out on a Bafta and an Oscar earlier in the year.
The actor won the accolade for his portrayal of George Smiley in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy: he was voted in by readers of film magazine, Empire.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy dominated the awards, also winning best thriller and best British film. It was closely followed by Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – Part 2, which won best film and the best director.
The British theme continued with The Inbetweeners Movie beating Bridesmaids to pick up best comedy and Olivia Colman winning best actress for her role in Paddy Considine’s Tyrannosaur.
Speaking after the awards Gary Oldman said: "There's no agenda, there's no politics, it's just people who like movies voting on whether they like you or not!"
The Empire Awards are voted for entirely by the public.
