Process Underway For BECTU General Secretary Election

Nominations for the position of BECTU General Secretary have now opened.
The five-year term of office for the union's current head, Gerry Morrissey, ends on 2 February 2012. The union's rulebook states that a ballot for the position must be held no more than six months before the termination of office.
Branch secretaries will receive full information on the election process, approved by the NEC, from today by post. However the branch circular and the nomination form are also available to download.
The nomination period closes at 12 noon on Wednesday 23 November 2011.
If the independent scrutineers, Electoral Reform Ballot Services Ltd, receive nominations for more than one candidate then ballot papers will be distributed to union members on 12 December 2011 with the closure of the ballot on Friday 20 January 2012.
