Teranex 2D-3D In Use At Germany's ZDF

Teranex Systems, a leading manufacturer of high-performance video processing platforms, has announced that Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF), one of Europe's largest public broadcasting networks, has selected Teranex's real-time 2D to 3D conversion technology for converting selected 2D content into simulated 3D programming.
Before choosing Teranex's 2D to 3D technology, ZDF conducted an intense four-week field test headed by ZDF's Post Production expert Frank Flick. Teranex's algorithm allowed ZDF to transform 2D archives into 3D content. The objective of ZDF's test was to evaluate whether 2D material could be repurposed and used in channels such as ZDF neo and ZDF mediathek.
Mike Poirier, General Manager of Teranex, stated: "Good simulated 3D content generated from regular 2D eases the evolution to 3D for our clients by creating more content for 3D channels between native 3D productions. Much like good scaled SD shows filled the gap between native HD programmes in the early days of HD broadcasting. We were intrinsically involved in the SD to HD transition and believe our exceptional 2D to 3D conversion will do the same for 3D bu supplementing native 3D content with converted classics and regular programming, growing the 3D audience with more shows."
Teranex's patent-pending technology is available through the VC1-2D-3D option for the dual channel VC100 and gives customers the ability to transition from today's 2D programming into tomorrow's 3D broadcasts. The VC1-2D-3D provides the ability to convert live or pre-recorded 2D content for 3D distribution, while keeping all of the VC100's features which include frame synchronising and more than 250 format and frame rate conversions.
