UK Indies MIPCOM Pavilion Nets £18m

UK independent TV producers attending the international market MIPCOM earlier this month under the UK Indies Pavilion netted record revenues, according to figures released by trade body for independent producers, Pact.
More than £18 million was generated by the 32 independents on the Pavilion, which is organised by Pact and supported by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), with 648 meetings held on the stand in the first three days.
Situated in the Lerins Hall of the Palais des Festivals, the UK Indies Pavilion provides meeting facilities including a cutting-edge digital screening system that enables buyers to search and screen many hours of content at the touch of a screen, networking events, business matching breakfasts and general support by Pact.
Pact Chief Executive John McVay said: "The UK production sector is renowned for producing innovative content. It is no surprise that our latest UK TV exports report showed international revenues were up 9% in 2009 and markets such as MIPCOM play a big part in achieving that."
Stewart Mackinnon from Headline Pictures Limited said: "Attending international markets like MIPCOM is hugely valuable to producers as it offers us the opportunity to meet potential funding partners, co-producers and talent face-to-face in one location. MIPCOM was particularly successful for us this year as we could announce the development of a returning mini series, and being part of the UK Indies Pavilion not only helped us to get there, but the support and facilities were invaluable too."
The Pavilion is coordinated by Pact and supported by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), Scottish Development International, Creative Business Wales, Northern Ireland Screen, Vision and Media, Westminster Council and UK Screen Association.
