New Age Of Travel Launched On Silver Screen

Olympic film-makers, New Moon, has followed up their multi-award winning London olympic bid films with another Great British promotional epic entitled, 'The New Age of Travel'.
Marking the historic launch of the new high-speed rail link to the continent and the re-opening of St Pancras Station as the new home of Eurostar in London, London Continental Railways invited New Moon to create a visual narrative that expressed the human element of this enormous engineering achievement.
The film will be screened as the centrepiece of the royal opening at St Pancras Station in the presence of the Queen.
Directed by New Moon’s Daryl Goodrich and shot by Lee Pulbrook, fresh from his Emmy success, this beautifully shot piece belies the fact that filming took place amidst the construction of Europe’s largest building project.
“As the film is about people, we were able to navigate around the challenges of working on a set that wasn’t yet built,” said Goodrich, “but under different circumstances, I’m sure the film would reveal much more of the stunning architecture of the Barlow shed”.
Built in 1886, St Pancras is one of Britain’s most iconic Victorian buildings and the film makes a nod to its past, celebrates its re-emergence and looks to its future.
This engineering feat has been the culmination of a project that has been some 10 years in the making and is the UK’s first new railway for 100 years.
Set to stirring music composed by Mike Dixon and performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the film charts the journey of a variety of travellers as they make their way from the continent to London.
As John Hannah narrates its progress, the faster, greener Eurostar speeds through perfect countryside and urban sprawl alike. The travellers, who include British stars Kristin Scott-Thomas and David Coulthard, relax on board, whilst their family, friends and lovers make their way to St Pancras to meet them.
The film captures the excitement that travel can inspire and expresses the vibrancy and optimism of the British capital.
'The New Age of Travel' culminates in a series of emotional meetings, including one which features a jilted Terence Stamp.
The location for this emotive finale tales taking place in front of ‘The Meeting Place,’ Paul Day’s sculpture of a couple embracing, reminiscent of the film, Brief Encounter.
New Moon have also created three supporting ‘interstitials,’ to be shown alongside the film at the opening events. These short authored films feature David Coulthard, Kristin Scott-Thomas and Terence Stamp paying homage, in their own words, to what can only be described as a great feat of engineering.
Caroline Rowland, Group Managing Director, New Moon said: “Making films that express what Great Britain – and particularly, London - is all about in the 21st Century is a huge privilege. The whole team have risen to the occasion and feel proud to have had the opportunity to be part of telling another truly great british story.”
