Corin Hardy directs new Keane promo

Award-winning director Corin Hardy of White House Pictures has directed a stunning animated promo for Keane’s third single ‘Bedshaped’.

The promo, which explores the theme of fading memories and relationships lost, opens on a foreboding back street in the heart of a city. The naked and pitiful frame of a boy emerges from a cardboard box and stumbles onto cobbled streets.

Seeking refuge, the boy winds his way through dark and eerie streets when he hears the haunting melody of ‘Bedshaped’ emanating from a window above. Silhouetted in the window, the boy can see the band playing and he looks longingly towards them before continuing on his way. Passing a restaurant window, the boy’s loneliness is made more poignant as he looks upon the laughing diners within. The diners stare back with unfriendly grimaces and the terrified boy moves on, eventually finding solitude and shelter in the nearby public toilet.

Still haunted by the band’s music, the boy spends hours thinking and scribbling the lyrics of ‘Bedshaped’ on the cubicle wall, ‘Don’t laugh at me’, ‘Don’t look away’. Gradually gaining strength and courage, the emotional walls the boy has built around him begin to crack and sunlight pours onto him from outside inspiring him to change.

Hardy combined hand drawn pen & ink illustration, live-action-effected ‘shadow graffiti’, cardboard cut-out style animation and stop-frame animation to stunning effect.
