About Flying TV

Our 12th year of supplying the UK's most efficient, high definition aerial filming.

Mike Smith - Founder
When Mike created FTV, he wanted to bring in a new and efficient way of delivering the most breathtaking aerial footage for the best price. By working carefully with the UK aviation authorities, he helped to re-write the the rule book on access and new technology - particularly in the area of live TV coverage.

With his passing on August 1st 2014, Mike has left an extraordinary legacy: Flying TV continues to thrive and grow with all his principles and guidelines in place.

Monica Wyer - Aerial DOP and Operations Manager
Monica has over 20 years experience as a television camera operator, becoming a member of the Flying TV team in 2004. She has been instrumental in developing the aerial filming technologies that continue to keep Flying TV ahead of the game. As an aerial DOP, Monica shoots the most beautiful aerials you will see on television. As Flying TV’s Operations Manager, she will guide you through the process from initial enquiry to the delivery of your rushes. Monica is also a helicopter and fixed wing pilot.

Mark Walters - Specialist Filming Pilot
Mark has been a member of the FTV team since the very beginning. Mark has more than 5500hrs experience as a helicopter pilot including some 1500 hours of flying experience with us. He lives in Switzerland where he enjoys skiing when he’s not flying.

James Stewart - Specialist Filming Pilot
James has been flying with us since 2011 and has proved himself to be a flexible and skilled aerial filming pilot. With more than 2000 hours helicopter flying experience, James is also an instructor, teaching people to fly, and represented the UK at the 2015 World Helicopter Championships.

Jonathan Penny - Specialist Filming Pilot
Jonathan has been with us since 2005 and is an extremely experienced pilot with over 7000 hours. With more than 1500 hours experience flying for us, he has a great eye for a shot. Jonathan is also an instructor and CAA examiner and is a keen tango dancer.

Ingo Prentl - Specialist Filming Pilot
Ingo is the newest member to the FTV team but has an incredible amount of experience as a helicopter pilot with around 7000 hours. He even spent time in the Australian outback as a helicopter cattle mustering pilot. Not much call for that with us but he’s very good at anything that needs fast and low! Ingo is also an instructor and CAA examiner.

Oli Byard-Jones - Specialist Filming Pilot
Oli has flown regularly for us since 2004. A very experienced pilot with over 7500 hours flying for the police and air ambulance, Oli is also an instructor and examiner... and he's currently learning Spanish!

Sarah Greene - Managing Director
"In September 2003 Mike and I were at the Robinson Factory watching G-PIXX, our first Flying TV helicopter, being built. Mike asked me if I thought anything was missing. I felt we needed an extra camera: inside the cockpit positioned centrally and high, at the rear facing forward. This is the camera a presenter can look back at, whilst showing the viewer what's ahead. Mike agreed and always called it the 'Sashy Cam' - 'Sashy' being our Godchildren's nickname for me. Appropriate really, because I see this as my main job: looking ahead... also listening and making sure Flying TV evolves and grows as Mike intended".

Our Base - Denham Aerodrome
Although we can be anywhere in the UK or northern Europe within hours, our base is the closest private airfield to central London: Denham Aerodrome. On the edge of the Chilterns, but inside the M25, Denham has easy transport connections and is only 30 minutes by road from the West End. In 2011 we designed and built our new headquarters - wholly dedicated to aerial filming and dynamic cameras. Under one roof is everything you need.
