EVS And GearBox Equip CTV Outside Broadcast For Field Editing In HD

CTV Outside Broadcast, a large independent OB company in Europe, has opted for a completely tapeless HD workflow, equipped through a collaboration between audio/video equipment suppliers GearBox and EVS, a leading designer of hardware and software for the production and playout of sport, news and TV programmes in both live and near-live environments.
CTV OB was in need of a solution that would encompass tapeless field editing and archiving and that would be compatible with Apple Final Cut Pro, GearBox cam through with EVS' XT(2) server for ingest and playout, along with the IPDirector suite for logging and associating metadata to clips and the XF(2) for portable archiving and transfer capabilities.
The XT(2) is used to record HD 1080 50i material onsite and is then logged on the IPDirector. Selected clips are then transferred to the Final Cut Pro-G-Speed XL 6Tb fibre array using the XT(2)'s gigabit Ethernet connection or the XF(2). Because the XT(2) natively supports the Apple ProRess422HD codec, all clips recorded on the XT(2) are immediately available to the Final Cut Pro stations for editing.
When editing is complete, the editor exports the sequence to QuickTime and it is automatically transferred to a selected XT(2) server for playback, even before the copy is complete.
