Broadcasters Pick Up Box TV's 'Last Enemy'

UK independent distributor NBDtv, a subsidiary of DCD Media, arrived at MIPCOM with several deals already in place for its key drama launch 'The Last Enemy' from Box TV.
The intriguing political thriller has been picked up by a number of broadcasters worldwide - ABC in Australia, TVNZ in New Zealand, SVT in Sweden and YLE in Finland have all acquired the title as a presale as have Universal for DVD rights in the UK. TV and DVD rights in the US have been licensed to WGBH.
Starring BAFTA winner Robert Carlyle (Hitler: The Rise of Evil, The Full Monty, Trainspotting), Benedict Cumberbatch (Atonement, Hawking, To the Ends of the Earth), Max Beesley (Hotel Babylon, Bodies, Hustle) and BAFTA and RTS winner Anamaria Marinca (Sex Traffic, Youth Without Youth), with a screenplay by writer Peter Berry (Prime Suspect 6, Mary Bryant, Kiszko – A Life for a Life), The Last Enemy (available as 1 x 90’ and 4 x 60’ or 1 x 90’ and 2 x 120’) explores a vision of Britain transformed by new Government security and identity measures to target criminals and protect citizens where identity cards, biometric tests and armed police are an everyday presence.
A shocking and compelling look at how technology could transform Britain into a surveillance society - threatening human relationships and destroying trust, The Last Enemy is a cautionary tale set a year or two ahead of the present day following a group of disparate characters who are pulled together into a global conspiracy, while trying to deal with crises in their own lives. As they are forced to delve deeper into Government secrets, their actions set off shockwaves throughout Whitehall and present the question - who is really spying on whom?
