Sony Launches New Broadcast And Professional Monitors

At NAB 2007, Sony launched its redesigned range of widescreen, professional, flat-panel LMD video monitors.
The four new one-piece, high-quality monitors offer production professionals a choice of critical content-management devices for reviewing footage, previewing materials or editing video.
"Sony’s redesigned range of professional LMD video monitors reflects the increasing shift towards HD and flat-screen technology," said Daniel Dubreuil, Senior Manager, Product Marketing, Professional Monitors, Sony Europe. "The new models build on Sony’s heritage in developing industry-leading LCD quality with tools designed to meet professionals’ unique and evolving needs. The new LMD range continues to deliver Sony’s trademark quality while meeting a diverse range of needs and lifestyles."
Sony’s BVM-L230 is an advanced flat-screen monitor for broadcast and D-Cinema productions or evaluation and mastering applications. This new high-end 23-inch reference monitor, developed in response to the expansion of flat-screen TVs, elevates broadcast post-production capabilities with full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, a 10-bit LCD driver and a high-frame rate.
The newly developed Precision Backlight system facilitates wider colour space with High Purity LED, exceptional uniformity control and unrivalled colour stability. The BVM-L230 provides unparalleled picture quality with a signal-process engine featuring 12-bit accuracy, a new I/P algorithm with reduced process delay and a highly accurate and consistent colour-management system.
Sony’s BVM-L230 possesses multi-format monitoring capabilities, displaying SD and HD format up to 1080/60p. As well as HDTV data, the BVM-L230 supports a number of other signal formats, including 2048 x 1080/24P for D-Cinema applications and VGA-WUXGA (1920 x 1200) PC signals.
The 24-inch LMD-2450W delivers WUXGA resolution (1920x1200) Designed for technical directors, producers and editors in broadcast, post-production, event-video production, mobile trucks and rental houses, Sony’s LMD-2450W and LMD-2050W one-piece, widescreen monitors are redefining the mid-market sector.
The 20-inch LMD-2050W offers WSXGA+ image resolution (1680x1050.) In addition, the redesigned monitors offer new features and functions to enhance overall system performance. The LMD-2450W and the LMD-2050W both include 10-bit processing for enhanced picture quality, and an audio-level meter, waveform and Picture-In-Picture mode are automatically displayed on screen for quick user reference. Also new to this series is EIA608 closed-captioning capabilities, required for the US broadcast market.
The monitors can automatically detect an HD or SD source and are able to accept multiple sources, for maximum convenience and efficiency, including both video and PC (DVI-D and HD15). These models support composite video, Y/C, RGB, component as standard and SDI (D1/HD) as options. In addition to HD15, automatic detection of DVI sources is available as a standard feature.
