Roeg To Present BFFS 'Film Society Of The Year' Awards at BFI Southbank

The British Federation of Film Societies (BFFS) will be holding its 2007 Annual Awards ceremony on Saturday March 3.
BFFS welcomes acclaimed director Nic Roeg (Performance, 1970, Don’t Look Now 1973, Puffball, 2007) to present these prestigious awards at London’s BFI Southbank.
Nic Roeg said: "I am very pleased to have been invited to present these Awards. Film societies play a crucial role in bringing new, and not so new, cinema gems from around the world to appreciative audiences across the UK. Their contribution should not be overlooked and this is a great opportunity to applaud their hard work."
BFFS will be rewarding excellence in the vital work that film societies do in cultural and community cinema. Categories include: Best Film Programming and Best Programme Notes, Best Website, Best New Society, Best Student Society, Best Marketing and the Community Award. The Engholm Prize for Film Society of the Year will be awarded to the most vigorous and dynamic film society demonstrating all qualities required of individual categories and showing matchless customer service and creativity.
The ceremony also recognises the contribution of an individual to the work of the BFFS by the award of The Roebuck Cup. Donated by Charles Roebuck, a life-long cinema enthusiast and national officer of the BFFS, it is awarded to someone who has provided stalwart service and support to the film society movement over very many years.
The Film Society of Year Awards are vitally important in achieving recognition for the often unsung work of an army of dedicated film devotees, all of whom work for their film societies entirely voluntarily to bring high-quality cinema to their local communities throughout the country.
BFFS Chair, David Miller commented: “This event is always an enormous pleasure and gives recognition to a vitally important contributor to the cinema heritage of this country. Having Nic Roeg present the Awards is the icing on the cake.”
The awards ceremony is the highlight of a weekend of preview screenings, the ICO Screening Days, organised by the Independent Cinema Office.
