MainConcept licence codec technology to Verimatrix

MainConcept, a worldwide leader in codec engineering, has announced that it has licensed its codec technology to Verimatrix.
Verimatrix, setting the standard in content security solutions that enhance the value of pay-TV networks, has chosen to integrate the MainConcept MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and H.264 Decoders within its recently launched ViewRight PC player.
This solution is an integrated part of the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) and is specially designed to complement deployment of dedicated set-top boxes in the rapidly growing IPTV market.
MainConcept is recognized industry-wide as the leader in software H.264 encoding and decoding for desktop, home and professional environments and through its partnership with Verimatrix, is now entering the IPTV and VoD markets.
Natalya Kramarenko, Chief Operating Officer of MainConcept’s Russian subsidiary commented: “Verimatrix is well known as a leading company in cutting-edge DRM and content protection systems and we are proud that our codecs are an integral part of their DRM solution.
“The partnership with Verimatrix proves that MainConcept codecs can easily be integrated in a vast number of different solutions including the demanding IPTV and VOD markets. Verimatrix stands out in the IPTV and VoD markets and they are highly compatible with cutting-edge content protection mechanisms.”
“Consumers are demanding more ways to view content, and a combination of STB and PC clients offers increased revenue opportunities for service providers that can deliver this flexibility,” said Bob Kulakowski, CTO of Verimatrix. “The use of MainConcept codecs greatly accelerated the development of a high quality viewing experience within our ViewRight PC Player, while helping to maintain the highest standards of content security.”
