               National Geographic Channel joins forces with devilfish
                    National Geographic Channels International has joined forces with acclaimed post-production company Golden Square and content branding specialist, devilfish, to create some beautifully crafted idents and a complete channel graphics package for its dedicated HD channel, National Geographic Channel HD.
The brief was to convey the National Geographic Channel’s HD’s attribute of ‘redefining the real world’ whilst maintaining the core channel’s ‘think again’ brand identity to challenge people’s perceptions of the world around them.
Through the latest filming technology such as the use of ultra macro lenses and filming up to 2000 frames per second, devilfish created five idents group NGC HD’s key genres entitled: Snowy Owl, Waterbabies, Eye-drop, Windscreen wipers and Polygraph test.
Golden Square’s Flame Operator, Faso Oyibo, was chosen to handle the project. Teaming up with devilfish, they created a series of organic backgrounds by shooting subjects such as water falling on a hotplate and ice cracking. A lens-like logo was then added to these backgrounds and the accompanying sound design, composed by Adelphoi, is cinematic in scale and ambition. In addition stylised filmic grade, clean graphic backgrounds and incredibly pure sound design completes the package.
Guy Slattery SVP, Creative & Marketing for NGCI comments: “We’re extremely pleased with the new HD package – the enhanced audio takes full advantage of HD’s immersive nature and combined with the visual richness and depth, the finished product illustrates perfectly what viewers can expect to see on National Geographic Channel HD.”
