SCOTTISH SCREEN LOTTERY PANEL BACKS NEW PROJECT
GLASGOW based Scottish Screen Lottery Panel have chosen one project for financial assistance from a selection of ten put forward for assessment.
The chosen project, ‘Magdalene’, will receive a £500,000 grant.
Film Lottery Chairman James Faulds said: “The panel felt that it is a powerful piece and, although controversial, will have great commercial appeal.”
He describes the story as: “A powerful, uncompromising look at the cruelty of Ireland's Magdalene Asylums and the hypocrisy of the church which protects them.”
The script was written and will also be directed by Peter Mullan for Antonine Films. This is the second feature by Mullan, his first being the highly acclaimed ‘Orphans’, produced in 1998 for Antonine and Greenbridge Films.
The Scottish Screen Lottery Panel’s next meeting is at the beginning of December and the deadline for submissions is Friday 22 September.
