BENSON AND PICKARD NEW CROSS DIVISION EXECUTIVES
THE BBC have confirmed plans to appoint their first cross-division executives with both programming and commissioning powers.
BBC controller of Specialist Factual Glenwyn Benson and Controller of Children’s Nigel Pickard who are currently in the factual, learning and drama, entertainment and children’s programme-making divisions will also take commissioning duties, for which they report to the department headed by BBC director Mark Thompson.
Benson and Pickard will be responsible for indies and in-house produced shows in addition to their in-house production roles.
The specialist factual cross commissioning post was created to separate it from the remit held by Thompson’s factual genre controller Nicola Moody, whose brief was regarded as too wide for one person.
Benson will now oversee commissioning for all her production divisions.
Director-General Greg Dyke announced plans to create a co-commissioning system in April 2000.
