Bectu Presidential & NEC ballots underway
Postal ballots are under way to elect the Bectu's President and NEC members for 2006-2008.
There are ballots in the Arts & Entertainment, BBC and London Production Divisions.
The independent scrutineer, Electoral Reform Services, is sending ballot papers to members' home addresses; completed papers have to be returned to them no later than noon on April 28 2006.
All paying members will receive a ballot paper to elect the President. A&E, BBC and LPD members will also receive their respective divisional NEC ballot papers.
Members in the Independent Broadcasting, Laboratories and Regional Production Divisions will not need to vote for their NEC members, since the number of valid nominations in those divisions equalled the number of places available.
The candidates for election as President are Tudor Gates and Tony Lennon.
In the A&E Division, Suresh Chawla, Michael Corfield, Mary Corner and Douglas McGill are standing for election to three available places. In the BBC Division there are eight candidates for five places: Alastair Hendrie, Peter Harding and Angie Scurr (jointly on a job-share basis), Tony Lennon, Andy Love, Willis McBriar, Jane Perry, Winston Phillips, and Tony Scott. Jack Amos, Peter Cox, Mike Dick, Tudor Gates, and Norma Ndebele are competing for the four available LPD seats.
Whichever of Tudor Gates and Tony Lennon is elected as President will be eliminated, under the rules, as a divisional candidate before those votes are counted. The result of all the ballots will be embargoed until the close of the union's Annual Conference in Eastbourne on May 21.
Any member concerned that he or she has not had a ballot paper should contact Bectu's membership department on 020 7346 0900.
