WOMEN IN FILM AND TV SUMMIT HELD IN UK

FILM Minister Janet Anderson will host the first ever international summit of the Women in Film and TV network to take place outside of the United States.
Writers, producers, directors, actors and technicians from across the globe, including New Zealand, Kenya, Australia and China, will gather in London this week to share their expertise and their experience of succeeding in a traditionally male dominated world.
The three-day summit has been organised by the UK Women in Film and TV network, which attracts women from across the UK industry. The summit is responsible for the annual UK Women in Film and Television Awards, to recognise the achievements of women in the industry, and Shooting from the Hip, Britain's first conference to promote the work of Black and Asian women in the UK film and TV industry.
Anderson said: “Film and TV are traditionally male dominated industries and women often face obstacles to success in this environment. This is now changing thanks to the continued efforts and growing success of women in the industry. The report on working conditions in film and TV published by the UK WFTV last year asked tough but important questions of broadcasters and film makers and helped to raise the profile of the issues facing women choosing careers in film and TV.
These issues are not unique to any one country but have worldwide relevance. The fact that the UK has been chosen to host the first ever international summit of Women in Film and TV outside of the United States is a welcome recognition of the success and resilience of women in the UK film and TV industries.”
