Sonic enhance desktop and set-top DVD

Sonic Solutions have announced that they are to add support for the Philips-developed DVD+RW Video Recording Format (+VR) to the Sonic AuthorScript DVD creation engine.
By adding +VR recording support applications built on the AuthorScript foundation, such as Sonic MyDVD, Sonic DVDit! and third-party applications for the PC and set-top boxes, will be able to take advantage of DVD+RW VR's real-time DVD recording capabilities on DVD+RW and DVD+R media.
"Compatibility and convergence in DVD recording are very important benefits for consumers," said Henk Veldhuis, Product Marketing Manager, Philips Optical Storage. "By adding +VR video recording support to AuthorScript, Sonic and its licensees will be able to exploit the best features of OpenDVD and +VR using a single software developers kit. In 2001, MyDVD was the first consumer application to support +VR by importing a DVD disc recorded on a set-top DVD+RW video recorder and allowing the user to edit the disc¹s content, while maintaining compatibility with legacy DVD video players and DVD-enabled PCs. We are excited by the full DVD recording capabilities and features that are now available in the AuthorScript engine and applications such as Sonic MyDVD."
