25th Cork International Youth Film, Video and Art Festival approaches launch
The 25th Annual Cork International Youth Film, Video and Art Festival will be launched at a reception in Jury’s Hotel, Western Road, Cork on Wednesday September 22 at 7pm.
The festival, organised by the Cork Youth Film/Video/Arts Group with support from Cork 2005, will take place from May 10-12 2005 as part of Cork’s celebrations as European Capital of Culture.
The festival, first held in 1980, grew out of the establishment of the Cork Youth Film and Video Group by Helen Prout and now enjoys national and international interest. The main aim of the group is to make the art of filmmaking available to the local community, providing the opportunity to develop their talent and skills through access to specialist equipment and facilities and the festival provides the platform to display those talents.
The group and the festival focus on fostering the imaginations of young people and children in the basic building blocks of film-making with supplementary competitions in other areas including painting, poetry, posters, storyboard and scripts.
The festival also boasts a complete section in the Irish language, to encourage the widest possible use of Irish in this modern media.
Competitions within the festival are open to under 12s, under 18s and adults.
Further details and entry forms are available from Helen Prout on +353 (0) 21 430 6019. The closing date for entries is April 8 2005.
