Magewell Technologies Underpin CHOGM 2024 Broadcast From Samoa

Magewell's IP production and streaming solutions played a pivotal role in broadcasting the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) from Samoa, enabling New Caledonia-based production specialist MiseOpoint to provide international coverage of the high-profile diplomatic event.

Held biennially, CHOGM brings together leaders from across the Commonwealth; the 2024 gathering welcomed dignitaries including His Majesty King Charles III. To achieve comprehensive global coverage, MiseOpoint selected a suite of Magewell technologies spanning production, encoding, decoding and signal distribution.

At the heart of the deployment were the Director Mini portable production and switching system, Ultra Encode AIO live encoders, Pro Convert NDI to HDMI decoders and the Modator 2U modular IP conversion platform. Working together, these tools supported dependable video contribution, adaptable signal routing and streamlined workflows throughout the venues.

MiseOpoint Director Thomas Roux said the Director Mini was used for forum production with two PTZ cameras, while Ultra Encode AIO units managed both primary and isolated camera feeds during key moments including the arrival of King Charles III, the opening ceremony and the final press conference. The Modator platform and Pro Convert decoders distributed feeds across the media centre and to venue displays carrying localised content.

Following the event, the Ultra Encode AIO encoders were adopted by TV9, Samoa's national broadcaster, for social media streaming and contribution into the broadcaster’s national digital television headend.
