TDF Expands Terrestrial Broadcast Capacity

TDF, a leading broadcast infrastructure operator in France, has upgraded its terrestrial broadcast network using Harmonic’s XOS Advanced Media Processor and ProStream® X Video Stream Processor, enabling more efficient use of spectrum while maintaining high-quality video delivery.

TDF provides audiovisual services for France's public and private broadcasters. With Harmonic’s solutions, the operator can now deliver six linear HD channels — BFM TV, CNEWS, CSTAR, NOVO19, T18, and GULLI — within the same multiplex bandwidth that previously carried five HD channels. The dual-site architecture ensures service continuity, even across geographically separated headend facilities.

Harmonic's software-based XOS processor uses AI-driven compression and the PURE Compression Engine™ to provide high-quality video at minimal bitrates, supporting HEVC encoding, 1080p source material, and HDR Dolby Vision. ProStream X enables remote statistical multiplexing, allowing efficient bandwidth sharing across multiple sites for seamless channel delivery.
