Optimal Audio Provides Perfect Performance At RedX Dance Studio

Since opening its doors in 2012, RedX Dance in Bristol has taught street dance classes to hundreds of children and adults of all abilities.

The award-winning company has its own studio in the Staple Hill area of the city, recently equipped with an array of Optimal Audio speakers and control solution.

With a requirement to deliver coverage over a large studio space and ensuring great-sounding audio to inspire dancers, suppliers Richer Sounds in Bath ultimately specified a quartet of Optimal Audio's Cuboid 6 full-range, two-way wall-mounted speakers with a single Sub 6 ultra-compact sub-bass speaker.

As Richer Sounds’ Bath store manager Tom explained: "One of the biggest challenges was making sure we could cover the whole studio while maintaining a reasonable speaker count. The Cuboid 6 sounds great and strikes an excellent balance between power and size, so they could be mounted in appropriate positions around the studio while still being discreet. And a single sub was all we needed to provide the low end that the dance classes require – even though the Sub 6 is the smallest of the Optimal Audio options, it's very punchy and ideal for the hip-hop and urban music that RedX often work with."

The Optimal Audio power and control solutions featured at RedX comprise a Zone 4P four zone audio controller with DSP and WebApp interface. The Zone 4P also boasts four channels of 100W integrated amplification at 4Ω or 8Ω and is fully programmable for ease-of-use. The system is completed by an Optimal Audio Amp 100, a 2 x 350w per channel power amplifier which, in combination with the Zone 4P, provides a full suite of loudspeaker presets, limiters and more, all configurable via the Zone’s onboard WebApp.

"The use of the Zone4P was crucial to the success of the system," said Tom, "as it not only allows for enough power to drive the speakers but also a great deal of connectivity so that it can be controlled by the client in a simple-to-use manner. Combined with the Amp 100 power amp the system has plenty of power so that if the client wishes to expand with additional speakers in the future there is sufficient headroom. It’s been a great solution for them."
