BBC Technology integrates Finalcut Pro Hd into Colledia

BBC Technology has announced the integration of Apple's Emmy-award winning Final Cut Pro HD editing software into its production workflow solution, Colledia.
Part of the company’s product strategy to integrate best-of-breed applications, the first implementation of Colledia with Final Cut Pro HD will be at the BBC for a selection of next generation documentary production.
Colledia integrates tools and components that previously worked as standalone devices. It ensures media and related production activities are more efficiently and cost-effectively managed across the full breadth of the media lifecycle, from concept through to ingest, distribution and archive.
The integration of Final Cut Pro HD will provide enhanced editing capabilities in production environments where there is a need for editing, compositing, graphics and effects for both standard and high definition (HD) programming.
"We support and share the view that IT and broadcast technologies are rapidly converging and the majority of our future program acquisition and post production will be carried out on commodity technology using standard IT networks and storage. Final Cut Pro HD integrated into Colledia is a good example of the type of technology we’ll be using often in future program making," said Paul Cheesborough, Head of Technology for Production, BBC.
"For our next phase of production modernization, we need rich and versatile editing applications that support open standards like XML and AAF, as well as APIs for integration with BBC Technology’s Colledia, which is already deployed in parts of BBC Production. This is driven by a need to enable greater creativity, to share content across multiple platforms and genres, and to reduce costs."
"Final Cut Pro HD is built on open standards, such as the XML interchange format, making integration with custom post-production pipelines easier than ever," said Rob Schoeben, Apple's Vice President of Applications Marketing. "BBC Technology’s move to integrate Final Cut Pro HD into Colledia enables broadcasters and other video professionals to have greater creative freedom, share content across multiple platforms and reduce costs."
The BBC recently piloted Final Cut Pro in a Colledia Workflow environment during the production of "Lightening," a science documentary from the BBC.
"Today's media environment requires groups of users to ingest content once and then access the content at any time, from anywhere; they need to share media and access live sources and documents," added Adrian Corcoran, Managing Director for BBC Technology.
Corcoran said that the collaboration with Apple unified the broadcast value chain by integrating "best-of-breed technologies".
