TDK showcases high-capacity data storage media solutions at NAB 2004

At NAB 2004, TDK is showcasing its versatile lineup of high-capacity data cartridge products, including its new 36GB DAT 72 cartridge and a complete line of LTO Ultrium cartridges.
TDK data cartridges provide large-volume data storage users with high-capacity, cost-effective solutions for a broad range of formats.
The DAT 72 data cartridge is a fifth-generation data cartridge incorporating DDS technology to provide 36GB storage capacity (72GB using compression), with a maximum transfer rate of 3.5MB/s (7MB/s using compression). DAT 72 drives are also backwards compatible with DDS-3 and DDS-4 cartridges. This versatility makes the highly compact DAT 72 cartridge (2.9" x 2.2" x .42") the ideal, high-performance media choice for a wide variety of installations. To achieve its superior performance, the TDK DAT 72 cartridge utilises a host of advanced technologies.
It incorporates an ultra-fine, proprietary Super Finavinx metal particle magnetic tape formulation and ultra-smooth, high-density recording layer with extremely high saturation magnetisation capability, enabling the DAT 72 format’s short-wavelength data signals to be recorded with total reliability.
To further enhance performance, the TDK DAT 72 data cartridge features an exclusive Three Dimensional Compound (3DC) binder system that assures the integrity of the magnetic surface and defends against tape edge wear.
In addition, TDK utilises materials for the tape cartridge and mechanism that optimise performance and guarantee durability and reliability.
