Dome Productions choose Miranda for Canada's Largest HDTV OB unit

Toronto-based Dome Productions, a leading provider of mobile television production services in Canada, has purchased Miranda systems for installation in MAJESTIC, the largest HDTV mobile production unit to be built and operated out of Canada.
Miranda's QUC-801i HD upconverter, QDC-801i HD-to-SDI downconverter, and other signal management systems will connect the 53-foot unit to the outside world by processing incoming feeds and outgoing signals.
Dome Productions' new truck, which extends the company's fleet to include eight mobile production units, is designed for flexible operation in a variety of applications.
Dome Productions Manager of Engineering, Curtis Skinner, explained: "We chose Miranda's HD products for MAJESTIC because they're very easy to use and will allow operators to make quick adjustments and configuration changes within the demanding time constraints of mobile production. These Miranda systems also provide good picture quality and can easily handle all the video formats we'll be working across, including 1080i, 720p, and standard definition TV."
Housed in a 4-RU Symphonie frame, the compact QUC-801i HD upconverter units from Miranda will allow engineers to convert SDI camera signals and incoming feeds to HD-SDI format. Various common and special aspect ratios can be selected, customised, and saved in user presets. To help operators meet the specific requirements of their HD broadcasts, audio, timecode, and closed captioning can be extracted, delayed, processed, or reinserted into the HD-SDI.
The 10-bit QDC-801i downconverter, also in Miranda's Symphonie frame, provides high-quality conversion of HD-SDI to SDI with a NTSC/PAL output. The system offers 3D interlacing with edge-detection and interpolation, 3:2 pull-down detection, and additional processing including noise reduction, detail enhancement, and colour space conversion.
