Lottery backed UK/Spanish co-production nears completion

The UK Film Council have announced that the first ever Lottery backed Spanish language feature film production between Spain and the UK is close to completion.
‘Only Human’ (Seres Queridos) is a high-energy comedy that follows Leni, a young Spanish television presenter who brings home her Palestinian boyfriend Rafi to meet her dysfunctional Jewish family. As the evening spirals out of control through a series of hilarious misunderstandings surrounding a potentially fatal incident, the couple’s relationship is pushed to breaking point.
Only Human is written and directed by Teresa de Pelegrí and Dominic Harari and is produced by Gerardo Herrero, Mariela Besuievsky (‘The Galindez File’, ‘The Waiting List’), Patrick Cassavetti (‘Intimacy’, ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas’) and Adrian Sturges at Greenpoint Films. The film stars Norma Aleandro (‘The Son of the Bride’, ‘The Official Story’), Guillermo Toledo (‘The Other Side of the Bed’), Maria Botto, Marian Aguilera (‘Honolulu Baby’, ‘You Shouldn’t Be Here’), Fernando Ramallo, Mario Martín and Alba Molinero.
Robert Jones, head of the UK Film Council’s Premiere Fund, said: "We are continuously looking at ways of helping UK companies forge stronger business and creative relationships with mainland European counterparts – in this case Greenpoint Films and Tornasol, one of Spain’s leading production companies. In many ways Only Human is a model co-production – even down to co-writer/directors Dominic Harari (British) and Teresa de Pelegrí (Spanish).
"Foreign language films get few chances of being seen in UK cinemas despite many being of high quality with broad appeal. With a strong commitment from the UK Film Council, we can deliver a wider range of films to UK audiences that includes accomplished projects like these."
José María Otero, Director General of the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual, added: "The cooperation between the Spanish and English producers on such a high quality production as Only Human(Seres Queridos) is essential in developing a more long-term collaboration between Spain and the UK, enabling films like this to reach wider audiences in both countries and to contribute to the creation of stronger European cinema."
The film is co-produced by UK production company Greenpoint Films, Spanish producers Tornasol Films with the support of Milou Films, ICAA and Ibermedia, Portugese producers Madragoa Producao de Filmes and Argentina based Patagonik Film Group.
The film is receiving £298,723 of Lottery investment.
