The Contour 'RollerMouse Red'

News Image
Broadcast Services recently completed the editing of a six-part wildlife series for Optimum Television.

Whilst editing this series, in Premier, we tried out the new RollerMouse Red from Contour Design.

RollerMouse is an ergonomic mouse designed to help improve working efficiency whilst using your computer, with added comfort for sufferers of RSI pain related illnesses.

The unit fits neatly in front of your keyboard, and has adjustable keyboard retainers to support it.

Contour also provide a keyboard specifically to work with the RollerMouse but it works fine with a standard one.

The RollerMouse replaces your conventional mouse and has a roller-bar which moves left, right and rotates to replicate conventional mouse movements. Pressing the roller-bar produces a left mouse click. As well as the roller-bar there are additional buttons for Left, Right and Double-click, as well as Copy and Paste. We found these particularly helpful, saving a lot of time, especially the Double-click button.

Like anything new, it takes a little getting used to, but after a bit of practice it was obvious that it was quicker and more convenient than a conventional mouse. The great thing is that you keep both hands close to the keyboard rather than having one hand going back and forth with the mouse.

Contour have provided adjustments for cursor speed and roller-bar click force adjustment, the roller bar click can also be turned off, as well as click volume adjustment. Installation was very easy, the drivers were installed automatically, the only other thing to do is to physically install the keyboard risers.

Having used RollerMouse Red on this project we were very impressed. We soon adapted to the new way of working and going back to a conventional keyboard & mouse set up seemed a bit old fashioned! Think we will order another one.
