Ikegami Appointed Reseller Partner For SAM

News Image
Ikegami has been appointed as a reseller partner for Snell Advanced Media (SAM).

This will see the availability of selected SAM solutions for use with the Ikegami UHK-430 4K camera system.

The agreement covers the Americas, APAC, the CIS, EMEA and most Asian countries. It includes 12G-SDI, IP connectivity and routing products offering camera crews greater freedom in system deployment. SAM's IQMIX modular range includes 25GbE, 40GbE and 50GbE high-density IP/SDI transceiver modules providing dual ethernet ports for redundant configurations, PTP synchroniza-tion and support for SMPTE ST 2022-6, VSF TR04 and VSF TR03 flow types – including SMPTE ST 2110, when ratified. SAM’s range of production switchers will also be available from Ikegami, including the Kahuna enterprise level series and Kula 1-3M/E range.

"We're very pleased to be partnering with such a highly experienced and well-regarded imaging technology company as Ikegami," commented Vincent Eade, Head of Channel Management and Marketing, SAM. "4K and HDR are driving the broadcast media industry to new levels of quality, and the reality of IP is opening up a wide arena of new workflows that content producers are embracing."

"SAM has an excellent reputation for both quality and innovation," added Naoki Kashimura, Director of the Board, Product Strategy and Marketing, Ikegami. "We have performed extensive tests to ensure operational compatibility between the UHK-430 camera system and SAM products. Using 12G-SDI, full-bandwidth 4K can be delivered along a single cable for distances of up to 100 metres, or via fibre over many kilometres. IP bridging further extends that capability, giving broadcasters and production companies the freedom to position and control cameras anywhere in the world for applications such as remote news production or live-event broadcasting."

The Ikegami UHK-430 camera employs three newly-developed 4K-native 2/3 inch CMOS sensors, which provide full 3840 x 2160 ultra-high definition resolution plus the depth of field required for full quality studio and outdoor production. The camera is highly expandable with optional features such as simultaneous 4K and HD outputs plus HD cut out selection from the 4K picture. These allow easy migration from HD to 4K live production. Network control can be performed via the camera's integral Gigabit Ethernet data port. This can be supplemented by IP and 12G-SDI interface boards.

The companion Ikegami CCU-430 camera control unit incorporates a switchable 4 x 3G-SDI 4K output as well as HD outputs. Dual HD outputs are provided for teleprompt and talent monitors plus return video lines from studio to viewfinder. A 40 gigabits per second optical transceiver integrated in the CCU-430 delivers full-bandwidth 4K RGB 4:4:4 component channels from camera to CCU, allowing very high quality chroma keying.
