Jason Starr illuminates Mahler's Third

Aurora Video Systems have announced that producer and director Jason Starr used Aurora's IgniterX Studio Pro digital video capture and editing card in the production of 'What the Universe Tells Me: Unraveling the Mysteries of Mahler's Third Symphony', a one-hour documentary exploring one of the largest and most ambitious symphonies ever composed.
The film, narrated by Emmy Award-winning actress Stockard Channing, combines special performances, illustrative artwork, computer animation, historical film clips, and commentary from world-renowned historians, philosophers, and biographers to delve into Gustav Mahler's all-encompassing work about the drama of emerging consciousness and its gradual evolution toward an ultimate flowering in humankind's capacity for love. "This project utilised a combination of many digital and analogue formats, including beta SP, D9, DVC Pro, DV, and D1, as well as some video clips captured via CD," said Starr, whose Arts Video Productions, Ltd. company is based in New York City. "The flexibility of Final Cut Pro working with the IgniterX card allowed for a nearly seamless integration of these varied formats. After the documentary was completed, it was shown at Bard College as part of the celebration for the opening of a new performing arts centre. The image was projected to the size of a film screen, and the detail and rich yet crisp colour were film-like."
