Panasonic's Varicam HD camera passes tough location test

Nervestruck Media LLC, an entertainment content development company, have used Panasonic Broadcast's new AJ-HDC27 Varicam HD Cinema camera on a number of high-profile assignments, including features for The Discovery Channel's 'Young Scientists' Challenge' and a performance/interview-based pilot with the musical group, Smash Mouth.
Nervestruck have given the AJ-HDC27 Varicam its heaviest location workout in creating special features for the Washington Wizards basketball team which are transmitted on weekly sports programmes.
"The AJ-HDC27 Varicam delivers a high-end look without the same effort required to make film look good," said John Brenkus, one of Nervestruck's founding partners.
"With the Panasonic HD camera we're able to look good faster and it's highly portable. It's the acquisition tool we prefer for close to 90 per cent of our work.
He added: "The variable-frame-rate capability provides an extra level of production that you can't get out of normal video packages. It holds the blacks so well, and gives us a nice palette for post-production. There was virtually no learning curve – you shoot with it much as you use a standard video camera."
