Entries are now open for the Royal Television Society (RTS) Young Technologist Award 2015.

The aim of the award is to advance education in the science, practice, technology and art of television and its allied fields. The winner will receive a trip to the IBC Conference in Amsterdam, as well as a pass to the RTS Cambridge Convention 2015. The runner up will receive the Coffey Award and a technical book of choice.

The award is open to anyone with less than three years' experience working within the technical side of broadcasting or its related industries. These include broadcasters, production companies and facilities houses, hardware and software suppliers to the industry, telecommunications suppliers of television capacity services, and recognised research institutions which are contributing in a demonstrable way to television in the UK.

Judges will look for applicants who can demonstrate a strong knowledge of the industry and show how the award would enhance their understanding of technology's role in television and its allied fields. Candidates will also need to display excellent communications skills and explain how they will share their understanding.

Chair of the RTS Young Technologist Award jury, Terry Marsh, said: "With the rise of on-demand services, communication and technology is more important to television than ever before. This prestigious Award will give the winner an opportunity not only to attend some exclusive events, but also to stand out as a bright spark in an increasingly fast-paced, innovative industry."

The winner of last year's Award was Bobby Moss, Graduate Software Engineer, BT Group Plc. The jury felt he stood out as an impressive ideas person who implemented innovative ways to support the business.

To apply for the RTS Young Technologist Award 2015, applicants can download a form here. It should be submitted electronically by Monday 11 May 2015.

The Young Technologist Award was established by the RTS with funds received from the family of A.M. Beresford-Cooke, an engineer who contributed to the development of British broadcasting technology through his work on towers and masts for VHF and UHF transmission.
