Netherlands' Axon Supplies Sky Brazil

Netherlands-based recording specialist AXON Digital Design has announced its first supply of its TRACS compliance recording system to Sky Brazil.
Sky Brazil is 93% owned by DirecTV and 7% by Organizações Globo. In 2012, the channel reached more than 5m subscribers, ranking as second in number of subscribers in Brazil. Currently Sky Brazil has 39 channels in HDTV in total.
Axon worked closely with its local distribution partner, Line Up Systems. Based in Sao Paulo, Line Up Systems carries out a set of activities that make it possible to provide complete solutions to broadcasters requirements and applications, with technical support to suit the client’s structure to DIGITAL TV, technical support to assemble a new broadcasting station, and for the suitability of broadcasting systems, producers and TV studios in universities.
For Sky Brazil, a key feature of TRACS2 is live stream forwarding, which enables the user to create a unicast or multicast (depending on system settings) of a live video stream over a local area network.
All computers on the network can hook up to this video and audio stream without needing the TRACS client application and without using up additional bandwidth per individual live view.
"Compliance recording is a legal requirement in Brazil and we evaluated many systems before selecting Axon’s TRACS2," commented Claudio Silva, Project Manager at Sky.
"With TRACS2 being used to record many hundreds of TV channels worldwide we believe that it is the natural choice, plus the great local support provided by Line Up makes the decision even easier to make."
TRACS2 is based on the Linux OS and runs on dedicated hardware equipped with RAID 5-configured disks. The system provides automatic recording with no direct access to recorded content and a sophisticated user-management system.
TRACS2 is easy to use - search and retrieval is fast and simple, even for multiple users. The system is compact - rack-mountable (just 1RU high) with a small footprint and no tape storage implications.
"Throughout its history, Sky has cemented a reputation as a pioneer and a top class provider of broadcast services to Brazil so we are honoured to be able to include them on our customer list," commented Harry Kanters Director of Marketing & Sales at Axon Digital Design.
"Last year, we installed over 200 channels of TRACS2 making it the leading compliance recording and video logging system worldwide and this important project indicates its growing popularity in the international market."
