Presenter course launched at 1080 in Manchester

Would-be TV presenters now have the opportunity to learn, be inspired and be tested by the best with the launch of an innovative television production company in Manchester.
The first of its kind outside London, 1080 will offer top quality training courses for TV presenters, ending with a full understanding of the studio environment and a unique comprehensive show-reel that will be shot in the virtual studio using all three cameras.
The courses differ significantly from those in London and offer a new, vibrant approach to teaching. Over two days, the aspiring presenters will gain practical, hands-on advice from every member of the studio team and will leave the course feeling right at home in a television studio environment.
Managing Director of 1080, Paul Morgan, said: “There are no opportunities for people who want to learn about the television industry to receive training outside London and this represents a real gap in the training market.
“Essentially, this unique course will provide students with a full, practical understanding of how TV works, as well as introducing students to all members of the studio team. Familiarising themselves with the role of the floor manager, for example, will help students feel more at ease in the studio.”
1080 is a spin-out business from Sumners, the Manchester-based video and TV facility. Trainees will have full access to the facilities at the Whitworth Street base, including 30 in-house editing suites, two audio-theatres, graphics department and state-of-the-art virtual studio.
Sumners already has strong links with the broadcast industry carrying out work for the BBC, Channel 4, Granada and Carlton. It boasts such credits as the ‘I Love….’ series and the TOTP Awards. Most recently, it completed over 100 hours of production on ‘100 Greatest Movie Stars’, a six-and-a-half-hour television epic.
