Scottish broadcast system rebuild by McMillan

A contract worth over £1m to supply and install the latest digital equipment to Grampian TV's new Aberdeen studio complex has been secured by McMillan.
McMillan, the leading AV and broadcast solutions provider, have been instrumental in helping the Scottish Media Group (SMG) equip the new studio complex in the city.
Tom Carlin of McMillan said: "We are supplying all of the routing and switching equipment as well robotic cameras, editing suites, autocues, monitors, and audio and vision mixing equipment.
"We are project managing the installation of the equipment and pre-fabricating some of it at our Leeds office."
Work began on the project in January and the finish date is scheduled for early summer when broadcasting is due to begin from new studios in Craigshaw Business Park. It will run in parallel with Grampian's existing studio facilities in Queen's Cross for a few weeks before taking over completely.
Tom Gallagher, SMG's Head of Resources, said: "We were confident in choosing McMillan for this contract that we were not only getting a good deal on the equipment but an expert team to support our own technical and operational staff during the installation, commissioning and implementation phase."
McMillan are equipping the studio in conjunction with Avid, the main technology providers.
McMillan will be responsible for supplying and installing the digital news studio and the technical infrastructure used to support Avid Unity for News digital production system. The Avid system will encompass all of the post-production requirements for the station and will provide fully integrated solutions that will include Media Composers, Newscutter XP desktop editing and Pro Tools audio post-production.
As well as installing and setting up the equipment, McMillan's project manager and installation team will also spend time training staff on how to use all of the equipment.
In all the team will pre-build, install and test between 300 and 400 separate pieces of equipment.
