BBC Plan For Thompson's Exit

'Sensible succession' plans have been put in place to replace BBC’s Director General should he leave, so say the BBC.
This news follows rumours in the media over Mark Thompson’s plans to leave the corporation in the next 12 months.
According to a report by the BBC this morning there is no ‘immediate vacancy’ but earlier in the week the broadcaster revealed that head-hunters have been appointed to find Mr. Thompson’s replacement so that a sensible plan is in place.
Thompson was appointed Director General of the BBC eight years ago and since then he has been responsible for its services across television, radio, websites and a workforce of around 20,000 people.
In a statement the BBC said: "Whilst speculation is inevitable, as the BBC chairman has made clear earlier this week this is sensible succession planning and does not signal an immediate vacancy."
