BECTU Western Freelance Offers Edit Training and the opportunity to speak to BBC Wales Drama Exec.

As part of the BECTU Western Freelancers (Wfl) AGM day on the 1st Feb 2012, to support the branch's micro event, Paul Hawke-Williams of Digital Media Training Ltd. and colleagues have agreed to do three short presentations either side of the branch's AGM covering non linear editing systems: Final Cut Pro 7 and X, Avid, and Adobe Premier Pro.
This micro event will be held at the Bristol Create Centre, BS1 6XN and it is a free event for paid up BECTU Members. There will be an overview of each software package looking at the advantages and disadvantages of each system and work flow issues.
Each presentation will last about one hour, including a short Q&A.They will cover the issues of file transfer and relate to the new solid state cameras and audio recorders now on the market.
With more solid state recording, including HD Video being shot on cameras ranging from DSLR to the 'Arri Alexa', the camera's media wrangling and ingestion into the edit suite is also an important work flow issue.
Solid state media drives are also being used on location, instead of or as well as on-board camera recording systems, which require syncing with the audio.
Julie Scott, a BBC Wales drama and production executive, has been invited to speak at the branch AGM on the future of drama in the West country.
This follows the creation of the BBC drama village in Wales and the relocation of both 'Casualty' and 'Being Human' to this site from Bristol.
Both series were established in Bristol, shooting studio and exteriors on location in and around the city. In the case of BBC Casualty this link with the city had lasted from the mid 1980's until the summer of 2011.
A Pre-Registration link is set up for this event at:www.bectu-wfl2.eventbrite.co.uk
Pre-Registration is required in order to gain admission to the work-flow seminars. Event admission is from 10:30 on the day, with the first presentation starting at 10:45.For further details about the event, please do keep your eye on the BECTU web site in January 2012: www.bectu.org.uk
Please see the registration page for any updates on the running order for the day.
Note: timings are subject to slight change. Any questions from members or non-members wishing to attend should be forwarded to Martin Roberts at :mroberts@bectu.org.uk
