FX Rentals supplies graduate movie makers

FX Rentals recently supplied a selection of recording equipment to sound recordist Angus McPake for use on a short graduation film that has already won an audience award and has been entered for a new talent BAFTA.
Entitled 'Dead', the film was produced by Jamie Goldblatt and directed by Mark Henrichsen, both graduates from the Edinburgh College of Art. It tells the story of a mild-mannered businessman who returns home from work one evening to discover that he has been murdered. He soon realises that being dead is no laughing matter, especially as his family seem more inconvenienced than upset by his untimely demise.
“Graduation films have a reputation for being extremely original in their creative approach, thus gaining much recognition at home and abroad,” Goldblatt says. “Our aim was to make a film that was both creatively and technically excellent, which is why we approached FX Rentals for help with supplying the sound equipment.”
The package FX Rentals delivered included Shure UHF radio microphones and an HHB PDR1000tc timecode DAT recorder. Angus McPake, who has previously worked on movies such as Castaway and a number of BAFTA short film Award winners, specified equipment that would allow him the freedom to record complex shots where a boom was not a viable option.
Since its completion, Dead has been exhibited at The Filmhouse and The Cameo, two of Edinburgh’s most prestigious cinemas. It will also be exhibited at film festivals world-wide and has been entered into Scottish Students on Screen and various other competitions.
