NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR LONDON FILM CRITICS CIRCLE AWARDS

THE nominees have been announced for the 22nd Awards of the London Film Critics Circle to be held at The Dorchester Hotel on February 13 2002, in aid of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).
In the running for the prestigious British Actor award are main contenders Gary Oldman and other British talent Ewan McGregor. Jim Broadbent also receives a nomination this year in addition to a nomination for British Actor in a Supporting Role against, among others, Ian McKellen and Jeremy Northam.
British movie, ‘Enigma’ receives an extraordinary five nominations in all, including Kate Winslet for British Actress, Tom Stoppard for British Screenwriter and British Film of the Year – rivalling the four nominations received by both ‘Bridget Jones’ Diary’ – Sharon Maguire, Director and British Film of the Year – and ‘Moulin Rouge’.
Other contenders for British Film of the Year are ‘Last Orders’ which boasts an impressive three nominations. ‘Last Orders’ co-stars have each been nominated for awards, Michael Caine for British Actor and Helen Mirren for British Actress in a Supporting Role and ‘Gosford Park’ whose actresses Dame Maggie Smith and Emily Watson are up against each other for British Actress in a Supporting Role.
Across the seas films and talents have not gone unnoticed with ‘Amelie’ in the running for Foreign Language Film and Joel Cohen up for two awards, Director and Screenwriter for ‘The Man Who Wasn’t There’, also nominated for Film of the Year. Other contenders for Film of the Year include, ‘The Others’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’.
The 21st Awards last year attracted an array of celebrities including Minnie Driver and Richard Harris, ‘Billy Elliot’ star Jamie Bell and last years nominee for British Actor in a supporting Role Samantha Morton. (CD)
