Child Cyclist Injured In Midlands Road Collision

A young boy remains in a serious condition in hospital after being involved in a road traffic incident in the West Midlands yesterday.

The 11-year-old was injured following a collision with a car in Wolverhampton. The boy was cycling close to a busy main road in Oldbury at the time.

The car involved was a Ford Focus, it is believed the collision happened at around 4.50pm on Wednesday.

Wolverhampton Road was closed in both directions between Birchley island (M5 junction) and Causeway Green Road (Hen and Chickens junction) while emergency services attended the scene and police enquiries were made.

The child was air lifted to hospital suffering from head injuries, last night police described his condition as serious but stable.

The road later reopened shortly before 7pm.

Any witnesses to the collision are urged to call the road policing unit at Smethwick police station on 0845 113 5000.
