PlayBox Shows Remote Playout And Mixed Format Handling At BVE 2009

At BVE 2009, PlayBox Technology is presenting its latest playout solutions that build on its established range that already power over 6,000 channels in more than 100 countries.
PlayBox has now extended its all-in-one workflows that already serve SD and DVB (IP/ASI), to HD playout and automation with graphics, as well as providing easy SD-to-HD upgrade paths.
This complements unique multi-format handling making PlayBox playout remarkably easy to add to existing MCRs and other environments, as well as a versatile solution for start-ups.
Also presented at the show are the further developments including key technology that extends PlayBox playout into the News environment and new MAM solutions. There are new developments in logo insertion and redundancy, giving customers more flexibility to choose the solution, the format and the price that meets their needs.
PlayBox Technology is showing the latest versions of its SD and HD servers including AirBox playout, TitleBox graphics and CaptureBox ingest. For the multi-format age the new AirBox Mixer feature is now included within AirBox to upconvert SD, 720p, Mobile or other arbitrary video sizes to Full HD (or 1080i).
In addition, AirBox Mixer supports multiple compression types in a playlist, such as MPEG2, HDV, DV, AVC/H.264, WMV/VC-1, MPEG1, etc, as well as all commonly used file containers such as MPEG system and programme transport streams, AVI, raw DV, MXF, QuickTime, etc.
This is designed to provide a streamlined workflow that avoids copying and associated QA or the use of tape, and 'closes the loop' for those seeking a complete file-based tapeless operation.
PlayBox Technology has developed complete turnkey solutions for cost-effective remote playout into areas where traditional satellite or fibre programme links would be too costly.
Taking advantage of the low commodity pricing of public internet connections it delivers the programme media, playlists and control instructions to remote sites anywhere there is an internet connection. Remote monitoring is also provided. The playout can include a full range of content with commercials, promos, station IDs and subtitles as well as the programmes themselves. There is provision for 100% redundancy of the playout as well as dual transmission of the video files over the internet to separate AirBox servers.
