Generator Post Purchases iQ DI System With Stereo3D Option
Helsinki-based Generator Post, Finland's largest full-service post production house, has purchased a Quantel iQ2K DI system to power the company's push into full digital intermediate film post.
The system is equipped with the Quantel Stereo3D toolset, enabling Generator Post to take full advantage of the rapidly growing interest in this new medium in Finland. Generator Post has also become the first company to adopt Quantel's newly launched soft-Sam option, which brings many of the shared workflow advantages of Quantel's Genetic Engineering technology to standalone systems.
Petri Riikonen, Production Manager/Post Production Producer at Generator Post, said: "Although Finland has a population of only around five million, we have a very active film industry, producing around 12 to 16 movies per year. We also post movies for Swedish, Russian and Ukranian productions and the market for Stereo3D is rapidly taking off in Finland thanks to the rapid adoption of DCI technology in cinemas all over Finland. The iQ is a natural fit for both 2K DI work and Stereo3D so we'll be able to service the entire gamut of film post here, and of course we will also be deploying the iQ across all our TV work, which stretches from promos to longform and commercials in SD and HD."
Jari Hakala, Generator's iQ Operator, said: "iQ's workflow is unmatched. You can import almost everything, get the whole job done in one system and easily do multiple versions. We put almost every sort of job through it, from file import/export, conforming, editing, retouching and dust-busting to compositing, motion graphics etc. on everything from films to TV commercials and corporate videos - iQ is a reliable workhorse."
One of Generator Post's key strengths is its enormous post equipment roster and the purchase of the soft-Sam option will allow the company to employ the perfect mix of tools for every job with ease. Riikonen said: "soft-Sam is all about workflow - it makes operating in a mixed environment with kit from Autodesk, Avid, DVS, Apple etc much simpler.
Hakala said: "We do a lot of file transfers, particularly for D-Cinema and Blu-ray authoring, where soft-Sam will minimise unnecessary loading on our SANS and reduce the time taken."
Generator Post will also be taking early advantage of the Red r3d integration announced by Quantel at IBC and already in public beta. Riikonen said: "Red is flowing from out of the doors and windows! Only today I've quoted on no less than four RED productions, with the first going into grading this week. Quantel's RED importer will make the whole process much smoother and more efficient."
