RTS QUESTIONS FUTURE OF BROADCASTING

THE ROYAL Television Society (RTS) have revealed the underlying theme for this year’s Autumn Conference entitled, ‘Paying The Bill’.
The Autumn Conference theme is aimed at identifying the ‘winners and losers’ from the Government’s forthcoming reform of Communications and Broadcasting legislation.
The Conference will examine the future for traditional public service broadcasting in the broadband and digital world, and the long-term future of broadcasting.
As giant international mergers take place on a regular basis, the Conference will look at the implications of reforming media ownership laws in Britain, assessing the battle between broadcasters and producers for rights ownership in the new world, and how legislation might alter the balance of power.
The conference will also examine how regulators see both their futures and the future of the industry.
It is expected that Chris Smith, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, will be offering his own views on many of these issues at the end of the Conference.
