RED POSTS OCEAN COLOUR SCENE PROMO

VISUAL communications facility Red used their flame and Spirit to add some subtle effects and grading to the video for Ocean Colour Scene's new single, 'Mechanical Wonder'.
The promo was directed by Ben and Paul from 2wenty6 Films who work as a creative duo, Ben as DOP and Paul as director.
The video is an amusing portrayal of a staff versus pupil football match where the staff use some very underhand tactics to ensure their success. However, the goalie for the pupils' team has a secret weapon up his sleeve - a robotic clone of himself that he has been building in his bedroom. At half time he switches with the clone, which goes on to save every goal, winning the match for the pupils.
Colourist Simone Grattarola used Red's Spirit Datacine to give the video a washed-out feel: "Ben and Paul wanted a 70s print feel to the whole promo, so drawing on references from that period we gave the promo a faded emulsion bleached print look, enhancing the grain from the film."
Paul used flame to create some 'Terminator' type effects for the robot's point-of-view. He was also post supervisor at the shoot and managed to wangle a role in the video as a supporter on the sidelines. (GB)
