Autumn adaptation masterclass at Galway Film Centre

FÁS Screen Training Ireland and the Galway Film Centre are to hold an adaptation masterclass in the autumn tutored by Robert Towne.
A producer, director, and script consultant, Towne is the Oscar-winning adaptor of 'The Last Detail', and is an acclaimed screenwriter with a swathe of top credits including 'Chinatown', 'Shampoo', 'Tequila Sunrise' and 'The Firm'.
The masterclass is designed for professional screenwriters in Ireland, working within the realm of film and television, and the Galway Film Centre require participants to be nominated by a production company with whom they have an adaptation project currently in development.
Under the guidance of Towne, those attending will explore the precise craft of adaptation. Participants will be expected to complete a pre-course adaptation writing assignment. The course will consist of a detailed analysis of the adaptation assignment under his guidance and it will be complimented by screenings and case studies.
The masterclass will examine:

• the craft of adaptation
• identifying stories that are suitable for adaptation
• exposition, character and dialogue
• identifying the main plot lines of a story
• identifying the main plot lines of a story
• adaptation structure.
