RED PROVIDE EFFECTS FOR KYLIE VIDEO

SOHO-based post-production facility, Red have made extensive use of Discreet solutions to provide integrated 2D/3D visual effects for the video of ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’, the first single to be taken from the forthcoming Kylie Minogue album.
The Discreet solutions helped Red create a realistic ‘look and feel’ to the futuristic cityscape in the video.
Production company, Black Dog, asked Red to build backgrounds to designs developed by director, Dawn Shadforth. Needing to employ innovative and flexible solutions to help them meet the tight project deadline, Red made use of their full arsenal of Discreet systems - 3ds max, fire, flame and inferno - in carrying out this process.
Red used fire to layer live action sea, sky and landscape backgrounds in the opening frames of the video. In the close-up of Kylie driving and the night-time rooftop sequences, they employed 3ds max to build and texture simple CGI models that were then imported directly into fire and inferno.
Red also used fire to animate buildings for the video’s driving scenes. In the sequence, which sees Kylie and a troupe of dancers on a concourse with the city in the background, the company used flame to generate the buildings from photographic stills.
The final section of the video finds Kylie on a rooftop in the middle of the city at night. Red pulled 3D models and textures of the buildings into inferno, from where it matched their movement to those of the camera, creating backgrounds and animating light textures within the 3D models to switch the city’s lights on and off in time with the music.
Helping to improve productivity, Red made extensive use of heatwave in the making of the video. heatwave, Discreet’s new infrastructure and workflow environment, integrates the company’s editing, effects and animation solutions as well as third party applications. (CD)
