Karen Walker From Ross Receives 2021 Rise Award

Rise is a global advocacy organisation supporting gender diversity across the media technology sector, and the annual awards ceremony is a celebration of the outstanding talent, skills, expertise and achievements of exceptional women across broadcast technology and services.

The 2021 ceremony was hosted in London, UK, and Ross announced that Karen Walker – Vice President of Camera Motion Systems – was honored with the Product Innovation award for the recently-launched Vision[AI]ry facial recognition and tracking system.

Vision[Ai]ry uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect, locate and track the position of faces within the video stream directly from the camera. This eliminates the need for a camera operator to manually adjust for the position of the subject in the image. "I'm incredibly proud to have won this prestigious award, especially given the talent and caliber of the other nominees," Walker noted. "Vision[AI]ry was a very complex solution to develop and launch, but it was one of the most satisfying projects I've ever been involved with from conception to launch. I’ve been fortunate to enjoy a rewarding career developing cutting-edge broadcast technology, and it’s great to see groups like Rise working to encourage more women into media, especially in technical and commercial positions. Women can thrive in any role in this industry, but people are often unaware of the career paths that are available. We can all play our part in highlighting these and giving young women from every background the opportunity to contribute to our future success."

Jeff Moore, Ross Video’s Executive Vice President and CMO, was also on hand last night to present the Ross-sponsored Technical Operations award to Rebecca Moore, Director of Technical Operations at CNNI. "Congratulations to both Rebecca and Karen on their well-deserved award wins," said Moore. "Ross is proud of our longstanding relationship with Rise and very happy to support the important work it undertakes. We have an obligation to ensure that the next generation of media professionals is as diverse and inclusive as possible, and groups like Rise are helping us focus on this vital issue and consider our own company practices. It's been great to see so many talented women nominated and recognized this evening, and events like this certainly bode well for the future of our industry."
