Norwich Back On The Mainstream TV Map

News Image
Epic Studios in Norwich is enjoying an exciting 2018. Having secured ITV's new 'World of Sport' wrestling series, the television centre has just put Norwich firmly back on the map for mainstream TV production. Great news for them, and for TV companies looking to bring their production out of the smoke.

ITV's WOS show will provide a benchmark for others considering a similar move.

Meanwhile, Operations Manager Kris McCarthy has highlighted the benefits of regional production at Epic Studios that made it ITV's number 1 choice:

"Epic Studios has the advantage of an extremely well equipped, cost-effective and completely flexible 10,000 square ft studio space that can be transformed to suit production needs, large or small. Our professional crew are on hand to aid with production from prep to post - and the studio itself is just a 1hr 40min commute from London. We're also surrounded by fantastic location filming opportunities. Our website ( has full resources info."

Locations to be found in Norfolk and Suffolk are undeniably popular with producers. Both counties boast historical town settings and modern architecture; rolling meadows, ancient woodlands and stunning beaches. In fact, shooting has recently begun, less than an hour away from Norwich in Halesworth, for the new Danny Boyle and Richard Curtis film (also rumoured to be featuring Suffolk born superstar Ed Sheeran). A spokesperson for Working Title Film said that the film would shoot in both Norfolk and Suffolk over the coming months, to "take advantage of the fantastic locations both counties have to offer".

More potential excitement for Norwich's media community comes in the form of Channel 4's '4 All in the UK' initiative. The strategy is intended to ensure that C4 is serving the entire UK and will see three cities become host to C4 creative hub locations by 2020. Norwich has ambitions to become one of those cities and has put forward a proposal for consideration, adding to this time of optimism for the city of culture. Owner of Epic Studios, Jonathan Thursby, says he is "delighted that Epic can contribute, by demonstrating to C4 that we're producing top quality TV in our city".
