Charles Wilson Engineers Enjoys Continued Success

News Image
Charles Wilson Engineers Ltd commenced trading in 1979 from a single location based in the Hertfordshire town of Harpenden.

Since that time, the company has grown into a specialised hirer of plant and equipment operating from locations in London and the Home Counties, the Midlands, North West & Yorkshire, South West and Southern England. We currently employ approximately 300 people and our turnover for the 12 months ended April 2017 was £70 million.

From our beginnings in the South East and London area, our expansion strategy has always been carefully planned to provide comprehensive coverage throughout the country.

In accordance with our coordinated corporate growth strategy we are always looking to purchase new sites nationwide. We opened outlets in Leeds in October 2015 and Manchester during February 2016 and our newest outlet was opened in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, in July 2017.

Our hire fleet is one of the most diversified and well maintained in the industry, with a cost in excess of £130 million. We are extremely proud of the standard of our hire fleet and we constantly strive to ensure that the equipment that we operate is as up-to-date as possible. Currently 70% of our hire fleet is aged three years or less. It has always been important to us to ensure that our depots maximise their potential. This has allowed us to develop our sites in such a way as to be able to offer our customers a very broad range of products and services. We have always sought to purchase sites which have a minimum of about one acre in size (our largest site is over two acres) and this has provided us with the means to set up specialist divisions within these depots.

These divisions offer specialist services with dedicated staff whose job it is to develop those particular areas of our business. In addition to the core plant and tool products that all of our depots operate, we have specialist divisions for: Powered Access, Safety Training, Super Silenced Generators, Lifting & Safety Equipment, Events and Traffic Management.

It has always been one of our fundamental business principles that we try to offer our customers a one stop shop experience when they trade with us. One of our greatest strengths is our diversity of equipment and our breadth of expertise.
