BBC Two Series Back In Time Returns For Second Series

News Image
The popular Back In Time strand returns to BBC Two, with Sara Cox and social historian Polly Russell hosting as a family of five head Back In Time For Tea.

Based in Yorkshire, they'll be immersing themselves in the daily lives of working families from the North of England, discovering how the food they ate, the work they did and how they enjoyed themselves reflect the broader changes in society from 1918 to the present day.

From custard tarts to curries, hasty pudding to halal butchers, it's a story of class and regional identity and the creation of modern Britain as we know it.

Bolton-born Sara said: "I was so excited when I heard I'd got this job I almost choked on my black pudding. Being a big fan of Back In Time I can't wait to journey back through the years, and eat my tea up north with a new family in Yorkshire as they explore the social history of and get stuck into grub from the place I'll always call home - the glorious north."

Catherine Catton, Commissioning Editor, also said: "The success of Back In Time shows how much BBC Two viewers enjoy this truly distinct programme that follows a family on a fascinating and challenging adventure through the decades. I'm excited to welcome Sara Cox to the Back In Time team and looking forward to seeing the show back on screens in the new year."

Ranging between the ages of 13-50, our modern family of five will experience first-hand the day-to-day-life and diet of a working family from 1918 to 1999, set against the backdrop of the North. Guided by Sara and Polly and joined by a host of well-known faces they'll turn their hand to the jobs done by their ancestors, experience the privations of life on the breadline and the pleasures of everything from a seaside day trip, northern soul or a meal out at one of the first Harvesters. From tripe and treacle sandwiches to microwave chips and the 90s revival of bangers and mash this is a time travel adventure celebrating and exploring a rarely told history of Britain.

The new series is due to TX early 2018.
