BBC One Confirms New Cop Show

BBC One has confirmed the commission of a new eight-part cop show, Cuffs.

The drama will reveal the challenges of frontline policing in the seaside city of Brighton. Featuring dramatic incidents and colourful characters, the series will see the officers putting their lives on the line to protect the public; whether it's from a booby-trapped cannabis farm, to an elderly woman with a shotgun. There are also a few odd cases thrown into the mix, such as an incident involving a middle-class dog-napping – and another incident when a fight breaks out on the beach between naturists.

Written by Julie Gearey (Secret Diary Of A Call Girl), Cuffs presents both humour and humanity. It has been described as a character-led drama as well as a police procedural, where the cops are forced to deal with everything the job throws at them and where work-based pressures are never left at the station door.

Ashley Walters (Top Boy, Inside Men) leads the cast, alongside Peter Sullivan (The Borgias, State Of Play), Amanda Abbington (Sherlock, Mr Selfridge), Shaun Dooley (Exile, Broadchurch), Paul Ready (Utopia, Ripper Street), Eleanor Matsuura (Spooks: The Greater Good, Utopia), and Alex Carter (Hollyoaks, Emmerdale). It will also be the first leading television role for Jacob Ifan.
